Automated Load Rating and Monitoring System (ALRMS) for Rail

FRA mandates an annual bridge inspection and load rating to be performed on all railroad bridges; however, it becomes clear that an additional real-time automatic bridge health monitoring and load rating system might be needed to add another layer of safety during inspection intervals. Such a system can not only act as a safety warning mechanism but also document full-time bridge condition evolution, which is critical for a cost-effective bridge maintenance program.
